INFANT FEEDING SCHEDULE
1. Breast milk is the best feed in 1st year of life.
2. Breast feeding to be started immediately after birth.
3. Mother’s milk protects the child from diarrhoea, pneumonia and asthma and other life threatening diseases.
4. Bottle feeding is not advisable.
5. Exclusive breast feeding for 6 months is ideal.
After 6 months supplementary feeds:
To be started after 6 completed months in small quantities, to be gradually increased. Initially start with liquid feeds later semisolid.
Tomato soup, other vegetable soups, Dal water, Ragi porridge, Rava kheer followed by
– Boiled and mashed potato, vegetables, rice and dal.
– Full boiled eggs (yolk first), sheera, idli etc.
A fully normal diet may be given by 1 year.
Rigid rules in the choice of supplement and time of introduction should be avoided. Follow child’s like and dislikes.
IMPORTANT INSTRUCTIONS
– Do not put oil into ears and nose of the baby
– Do not apply Kajal in the eyes of the baby
– Do not press nipples of the baby.
– Immunization on schedule
REPORT TO DOCTOR IMMEDIATELY IF YOUR CHILD HAS
– Yellow coloration
– Loose motion or vomiting ORS or water with salt and sugar at regular interval is advisable
– Decreased frequency of urination
– Distension of abdomen
– Restlessness (Child not feeling well)
– High fever
– Convulsion or fits
– Attacks of cyanosis i.e. bluish discoloration of lips
– Breathlessness or breathing problem
– Generalized swelling of the body
– Child is drowsy/ altered sensurium
– Passing tea colored or red colored urine
– Child not taking feeds
